STAR Autism Support has helped numerous classrooms throughout the United States, Canada and Europe become STAR Training Sites. Through this model school districts increase their capacity to train other staff within the district. Consultants for STAR Autism Support work with target classroom(s) to develop a model training site. This site is developed through a sequence of training activities designed to train key staff to implement the program and then replicate STAR Autism Support's set-up and hands-on training process.
STAR Autism Support has been involved in a project to develop a state-wide network of training sites in Oregon through a partnership with the Oregon Department of Education and Northwest Regional ESD. For an excelent example of the success Training Sites can have and more information on this project (ORPATS) visit www.orpats.org.
The following are some possible benefits of developing a school district training site:
A training site will allow others to see an example of a site that is implementing appropriate methods with children with autism
Staff in the model training site are able to train others
A resource to your school district to offer continuous training of new staff
A team capable of assessing student strengths and needs
