At STAR Autism Support, we believe inclusive education begins with inclusive tools. We are committed to designing, developing, and maintaining products that are accessible to the educators, students, administrators, and families who use them, regardless of ability, environment, or individual need. Accessibility is an ongoing part of how we build our products, not a one-time review.
Our standard
STAR's target standard for digital accessibility is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, Level AA, as published by the W3C. Our products are evaluated against WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA criteria, which incorporate the WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA success criteria.
The WCAG guidelines are grounded in four principles:
- Perceivable: content is available to all users, including those using screen readers and other assistive technology
- Operable: functionality is available via keyboard navigation, without interaction traps
- Understandable: structure is clear, behavior is consistent, and input assistance is provided
- Robust: content remains compatible with current and future assistive technologies
Conformance status
STAR's products are partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the product meets the standard, and some parts may not yet fully conform. Accessibility is an ongoing process: we evaluate our products through independent third-party assessment, document what those assessments find, and prioritize improvements through our regular product development cycle.
Accessibility documentation
STAR maintains Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs), produced using the VPAT format, for its products. Districts, administrators, and procurement teams may request current accessibility documentation for any STAR product by contacting us.
Accessibility governance
Accessibility oversight is coordinated through STAR's Product and Technology teams. Accessibility requirements are considered during product planning and design review, validated ahead of major releases, and reassessed through independent third-party evaluation.
