National Standards Report: Phase 2 Now Available

The National Autism Center recently published Phase 2 of the National Standards Report (2015).  The original National Standards Report identified 11 established practices that had sufficient outcome data.  Phase 2 includes a discussion of interventions appropriate for adults. The Phase 2 report lists 14 established practices for students/young adults under age 22:

·         Behavioral Interventions

·         Cognitive Behavioral Intervention Package

·         Language Training (Production)

·         Modeling

·         Natural Teaching Strategies

·         Parent Training

·         Peer Training Package

·         Pivotal Response Training

·         Schedules

·         Scripting

·         Self-Management

·         Social Skills Package

·         Story-based Intervention

The complete National Standards report includes a list of skills that may be increased by the use of the intervention, a detailed description of each intervention, an example of the intervention through a case study approach and recommended readings. The report indicates that it is appropriate to use several of these strategies in combination to meet the needs of specific students.  Many of these evidence-based practices are incorporated within the STAR Program and the Links Curriculum.
