Supporting Students During Functional Routines for Paraprofessionals (January 19, 2022)

Routines are the activities we do all day long with students! This session covers the instructional strategies that can be used to pre-teach skills needed for students to successfully participate in classroom routines. We will review how prompting and reinforcement can support independence during routines, identify environmental and visual supports to prepare routine areas, and learn how to analyze data and use tools to make instructional decisions.

Teaching Functional Communication for Paraprofessionals (January 20, 2022)

Communication is a key skill students need to successfully engage in their school, home, and community environments. Students with disabilities often communicate in ways that are different than their neurotypical peers. In this session, participants will learn how to build receptive and expressive language skills using tools from the STAR and Links programs.

Learn about the components of successful classroom environments, including consistent schedules, structured learning spaces, and environmental supports for students. This session will provide tools for teachers to use rotations to incorporate 1:1 teaching, small group instruction, and opportunities for students to increase independence in routines throughout the day. Scheduling tools, organizational ideas, and additional supports from the STAR and Links programs will be shared.
