STAR Autism Support Advisory Panel Information

STAR Autism Support Focus Group

What is STAR Autism Support?

STAR Autism Support provides curriculum materials, workshops, and training to school and agency staff who work with students with autism. Our mission is to help others successfully implement research-based applied behavior analysis techniques. We want every autistic child to receive effective instruction!

What is the purpose of the focus group?

The STAR focus group purpose is to gather specific and detailed feedback on content, usability and functional use in a classroom, diverse representation and student engagement on specific STAR products in order to enhance our existing and newly developed curriculum materials. Detailed info below:

  • Focus group members are educators that have access to students on a daily basis and use STAR and/or Links materials in their classrooms.
  • As a member of the focus group you will be given a product (mailed printable content and/or sent digital content) quarterly and asked to use these materials with your students.
  • The group will then meet and have a facilitated discussion where all feedback is collected on the product in addition to each individual giving written feedback.
  • The expectation for joining the focus group is to attend one zoom meeting per quarter (up to 2 hours) for a minimum of one year and implement the product in your classroom and answer occasional surveys between meetings. Meeting times will be chosen based on member availability and will take into account the school day and time zones. The first product will be sent out in January, 2022 with a meeting to follow.
  • Participants will be compensated $150 per quarter. The product you will be asked to use will be something that can be implemented in a short time frame and require very limited preparation (an example product might be a science lesson plan and accompanying science independent work folders)

What is the time commitment and what are the expectations of a focus group member?
